Oil Tempered Wire for Custom Springs & Wire Forms
High-carbon spring steels are the most commonly used of all springs materials. Our customers choose oil tempered high carbon steel wire for their custom spring and custom wire form manufacturing projects because it is inexpensive, readily available, and easy to work with. However, this wire is not satisfactory for high or low temperatures or for shock or impact loading.

Heat Treating ASTM A 229 Oil Tempered Wire
Oil tempered is delivered in pre-tempered condition. Therefore, no further hardening can be obtained via heat treating. However, depending on the application, springs and wire forms will undergo a stress-relieving process.
Manufacturing Custom Springs & Wire Forms with Oil Tempered Wire
Oil tempered wire is cold drawn and heat treated before fabrication.
Please note that we do not sell ASTM A 229 oil tempered wire or any other materials in raw form. Oil tempered wire is a material option for custom springs, wire forms, etc., manufactured by Peninsula Spring.
