Nickel-based alloys are especially useful spring materials. Their chemical composition makes them highly corrosion resistant, and they perform well in extreme high and low temperatures. Most nickel alloys are nonmagnetic, an important property for devices such as gyroscopes, chronoscopes, and indicating instruments. Nickel alloys exhibit high electrical resistance, and therefore should not be used as electrical conductors.
A-286 is a “super alloy” composed of nickel, chromium, and iron (Ni-Cr-Fe). It is an ideal material for custom springs and wire forms for applications that require high strength in temperatures from -320° to 950°F (-196° to 510°C). A-286 nickel alloy offers excellent oxidation and corrosion resistance.

Precipitation Hardening A-286 Nickel Alloy
- Precipitation harden at 1300-1400°F (704-760°C)
- Hold for 16 hours
- Air cool to room temperature
Manufacturing Custom A-286 Springs & Wire Forms
A-286 is a general purpose alloy. It is cold drawn to the required temper, and precipitation hardened after fabrication. A-286 nickel alloy is mainly used to make springs and wire forms for use in elevated temperatures and/or corrosive environments.
