Please note that we do not sell ASTM A 231 chrome vanadium wire or any other materials in raw form. Chrome vanadium wire is a material option for custom springs,  etc., manufactured by Peninsula Spring.

Chromium vanadium is the most popular alloy steel for custom springs that must withstand a large number of operating cycles. Chrome vanadium springs can be used at extremely high stresses in applications where they will also be subject to extreme shock and impact loading. For high endurance springs, the alloy is usually used at a hardness of Rockwell C44-49.

Heat Treating ASTM A 231 Chrome Vanadium Wire

Chrome vanadium wire is delivered in pre-tempered condition; no further hardening can be obtained through heating.  As needed, completed springs and wire forms will undergo a stress-relieving process.

Chrome vanadium is cold drawn and heat treated before spring fabrication process.
