High Carbon Spring Steel

High Carbon Spring Steel

High Carbon Steel for Custom Springs & Stampings

AISI 1095/ASTM A 682 High Carbon Steel
Please note that we do not sell high carbon steel or any other materials in raw form. High carbon steel is a material option for custom springs, etc., manufactured by Peninsula Spring.

AISI 1095 delivers the best fatigue values and elasticity of any of the high carbon spring steels. This makes AISI 1095 an excellent choice when your custom flat springs, clips, or sheet metal stampings must be pushed to their limits.

High carbon steel is an ideal material for custom flat springs, custom clips, and custom sheet metal stampings.

Nominal Chemical & Physical Properties
  • C: 0.90 - 1.04%
  • Mn: 0.30 - .80%
  • Minimum tensile strength: psi x 103 180-340
  • Modulus of elasticity: psi x psi x 106 30
  • Maximum operating temperature: 250°F (121°C)
  • Rockwell hardness: C40-52
Heat Treating AISI 1095
The high carbon steel from which we manufacture custom springs is delivered in annealed (soft) condition. After fabrication, it is quenched and tempered to a spring tempered condition.

A second option, called “Blue Polished steel”, sees the material already processed to a pre-tempered condition. After fabrication, the pre-tempered material usually undergoes a stress relieving process.

Manufacturing Springs & Stampings with High Carbon Steel
AISI 1095 is cold drawn and heated to either annealed condition or to a high and uniform tensile strength.

We use high carbon steel in a variety of forms, not limited not AISI 1095. Our high carbon steel options for custom spring and stamping manufacturing include:
  • AISI 1074-1075 sheet & strip
  • AISI 1095 sheet & strip
  • Music wire
  • Hard drawn wire
  • Oil tempered wire
  • Chrome silicon wire
  • Chrome vanadium wire
