Please note that we do not sell ASTM A 227 hard drawn wire or any other materials in raw form. Hard drawn wire is a material option for custom springs, wire forms, etc., manufactured by Peninsula Spring.

High-carbon spring steels are the most commonly used of all springs materials. High carbon steel hard drawn wire is low cost, readily available, and easy to work with. However, it is not satisfactory for high or low temperatures or for shock or impact loading, and should only be used in applications where working life, accuracy, and deflection are not critical.

Heat Treating ASTM A 227 Hard Drawn Wire

Hard drawn high carbon steel wire is delivered in pre-tempered condition—no further hardening can be achieved through heat treating.  However, depending on your application completed springs and wire forms will undergo a stress-relieving process.

Hard drawn wire is cold worked to temper.
